Obesity Problem
Clinical Obesity in Adults and Children Obesity is serious problem: in the year 2000, the World Health Organization published statistics which revealed that globally 302 million people were clinically obese (BMI > 30.0) - 8.2% of the global population. In developed market economy countries, the incidence of obesity is 20.4% of the population and in countries where the economy is in transition the incidence is 17.1%. Obesity substantially increases the risk of morbidity from hypertension, type II diabetes, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea and respiratory problems and endometrial, breast, prostate and colon cancers. It is a major contributor to preventive death in the US which has 97 million adults classified as obese. The prevalence of obesity is increasing: between 1960 and 1994, the number of obese adults (aged 20-74 years) in the US increased from 12.8 to 22.5%.
Defeating the Child Obesity Epidemic: A Pediatrician (and Mom) Tells How to Fight Fat, Save Your Children A pediatrician with more than 30 years of experience details her treatment of obesity in her patients and offers a look at the causes of this problem--too much fast food, too little exercise, and too much television--locally, nationally, and around the world. Not content to merely define the problem, this study takes an action-oriented approach to solving the problems created by this full-blown epidemic. Besides offering the three-pronged test of sensible eating, exercise, and behavior modification, this guide suggests age-appropriate practices that allow children and parents to participate in creating solutions together. Taking a tough-love approach, this handbook hopes to save the lives of young people and prevent an overloading of the health care system as obese youngsters get older and begin to experience heart attacks, strokes, and multiple organ failure.

See, for example, secretary problem and monkey and banana problem. Overeating - Overeating is a behavior that, while generally not a medical problem, in some cases is a symptom of binge eating disorder or bulimia. In more general terms it refers to the persistent consumption of excess food in relation to the energy that the person expends, leading to weight gain and often to obesity. Problem finding - Problem finding means problem discovery. It is part of the larger problem process that includes problem shaping and problem solving. Optimization problem - In computer science, an optimization problem is the problem to find among all feasible solutions for some problem the best one.
